Interior & Exterior Design for the Conversion of an Old Pottery Workshop into Premium Tourist Accommodation

In the northern part of Sifnos, in the picturesque harbor of Cheronissos, lies a very unique accommodation, “Psarona Hospitality,” which promises to turn your vacation into an unforgettable experience!

Just a stone’s throw from the sea, it appears completely detached from the hectic pace of everyday life, offering visitors unobstructed views of the endless blue of the Aegean, along with comfort and tranquility. For the owners, hospitality is a personal affair, and they promise a unique travel experience for their guests.

At the architectural construction firm Morphó, we undertook the Interior & Exterior Design of the property and its transformation from an old pottery workshop into two luxurious independent apartments.

Cheronissos, once a settlement of potters, is a beautiful, picturesque fishing village, effectively “sheltered” by a small cove. The toponym Cheronissos refers to a landmass surrounded by the sea and connected to the mainland on only one side. Approaching the location, one discovers the simplicity and grandeur of the Cyclades, as this quiet village is washed by turquoise waters filled with fishing boats, set in an untouched, wild, and imposing landscape. The accommodation is situated in one of the prime spots of Cheronissos, offering dual views of the harbor entrance and the beach, serving as a landmark. Its dominant position, the natural beauty of the cove, and the connection to the pottery workshop inspired the design process, and the result fulfilled the owners’ vision as well as our own.

The proposed design preserves the historical significance of the building while incorporating modern elements that provide comfort and a contemporary character to the spaces. In consideration of the building’s previous function as a pottery workshop, we chose to preserve the ceramic kiln, where vessels were traditionally placed to attain their final shape—essentially to be “fired.”

Both the old use and the intention to reference the Early Cycladic era, during which the art of pottery-making dates back, guided us toward a color palette inspired by clay and textures reminiscent of it throughout the design. Maintaining the simplicity and serenity that “Psarona Hospitality” exudes, with monastic influences in the applications, we created two independent apartments that adhere to a minimal aesthetic, featuring contrasting colors, arches, spacious terraces with unobstructed views, and the old kiln at the lower level leading to the sea, emphasizing the coexistence of tradition and modernity.

“Psarona Hospitality” is designed for guests seeking the tranquility of the sea and the peace of nature. We are confident that your stay there will be unforgettable and will compel you to return!
